The Ultimate Packing List for Your Maternity Session | Love, Tanner Photo
If you're prepping for your maternity session — first of all, I’m so glad you’re here. Whether we’re documenting this season in your home, in the studio, or out in the wild where the wind does half the styling — my goal is always to capture what’s real. And that starts with helping you feel as prepared and comfortable as possible.
So let’s talk packing.
Here’s the go-to list I send every client for what to bring to their maternity photoshoot. Nothing over-the-top, nothing Pinterest-perfect — just practical, intentional items that support the story we’re telling.
What to Pack for Your Maternity Session
1. 2–3 Outfit Options That Feel Like You
Choose pieces you feel good in. Something flowy that moves with the wind, something fitted to show off your bump, and maybe something casual if we’re capturing more everyday moments. Neutrals photograph best, but I always say — if it feels like you, bring it.
Bonus Tip: Bring hangers and pack your outfits wrinkle-free in a garment bag if possible.
2. Seamless Undergarments
A nude strapless bra and underwear can save the day — especially with fitted dresses or anything sheer. Skip bold patterns or lace that could show through.
3. Comfortable Shoes (and Maybe None at All)
If we’re shooting outside, bring comfy shoes for walking — but don’t be surprised if you end up barefoot for a few shots. Bare feet help ground the story, especially in more natural locations.
4. Water + Light Snack
You’d be surprised how often we end up shooting longer than expected — especially if the light is good. A protein bar and some water go a long way.
5. Hairbrush or Comb
If the wind shows up (which we love), a quick hair touch-up between locations can keep things clean without overstyling.
6. Meaningful Details (Optional)
Baby shoes, a handwritten note, an ultrasound photo, or anything sentimental you’d love to include. Not a must — just something to consider if it adds meaning for you.
7. Partner’s Outfit (If They’re Joining)
Think neutrals and solid textures that pair well with your look — nothing overly matchy or loud. Keep it simple and cohesive.
8. A Robe or Button-Up for Changing
Quick outfit swaps are easier with a layer you can throw on — especially if we’re in the studio or in the car between locations.
9. Makeup Touch-Ups
A powder compact, lip balm, or oil blotting papers — nothing major, just enough to freshen up if needed.
What Not to Worry About
You don’t need to overpack. You don’t need to show up with five outfits and props. The best maternity photos happen when you feel relaxed, supported, and seen — and that’s where I come in. I’ll guide you every step of the way.
This season is personal. Let’s treat it that way.
